New Dad
Guess many of you know now, that my B.I.L. is a new Dad. He is the proud father of a very handsome looking little boy named Koen Reid. I am very proud to be an Uncle for the first time.
John and I have been friends a long time. We first met in 1993. Amanda introduced us at Jarrett Hall. I was playing volleyball in the court yard with a bunch of guys and Amanda showed up with this tall, good-looking guy, and I remember thinking, "what the....." but, thankfully it was her brother.
1993...that's 15 years. Long time. Over the years John has always given me advice. (whether I wanted it or not.) He is quite possibly one of the most intelligent men I know. But, finally the tables are turning. Thanks to Koen Reid and John's inexperience, I get to sit back and let him come to me for some advice for a new Dad....yeah right, he won't ask me. He'll figure something out and get by without asking my opinion or what he needs to do...Dang it!
No, seriously here are some tips my friend:
1. Enjoy the diaper changing now, while the poop is little, just remember it is fixing to get bigger and smell a lot worse.
2. Sleep every chance you get. I told you, from this point on, You will NEVER sleep the same again.
3. Tell your wife how beautiful she is often. Women weird out some for about 2-3 months after they get home from the hospital. Keep encouraging her by telling her mushy stuff. And just listen and try not to fix anything when she freaking out about socks or something stupid like that.
4. I can specifically remember people telling me that I needed to soak it all in because it goes way to fast. Used to frustrate the crap out of me...BUT, soak it all in my friend because it goes way to fast.
5. Lastly, don't worry if you are going to be a good dad or not. I have full confidence that you will. You will bring him up in a house where he is loved, where he knows God, where he knows the difference between good and bad, and where he will be held accountable. And for the rest of his life, he will call you Dad and love you forever.
Good Job John.
